Work Process

I shoot real life images, things that appear in front of me that perhaps I see in a little different way from other people, or that I can capture in the moment.  I enjoy the freedom that shooting digital images gives me.  I make the same careful planning and preparations that one would make if using film, but using digital media, I can experiment in the moment without the financial burden shooting film imposes.  The sun will set at the same time or my model will only be available for the same 20 minutes, but a digital camera can capture many carefully prepared images, perhaps more than one hundred, at no extra cost.  This is my choice.

My camera goes with me everywhere.  I do enjoy photographing events as they can happen anywhere and at any time.  I should clarify that statement a bit as I enjoy catching the people at the events just doing their own thing.  Sometimes striking a spontaneous pose for a bit of fun, but more often than not unobserved going about doing their own thing.   That's when the magic happens and you get the shots you really want.  It can often be hard work and takes a lot of patience, and you are not always rewarded, but when you are it is awesome!

About me

I am originally from and again reside in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada.  I spent the past 30 years in the Canadian Army, mostly as a Logistics Officer.  Having been a hobby photographer off and on for many years, I have now completed my two year Diploma Program in Digital Photography and Imaging.  In addition to the set curriculum, I found lots of new ideas to pursue, but few opportunities to shoot.  Now time is again more my own, that will be remedied!  Traveling widely, both in my career as a professional soldier and as a tourist, I have exposed many rolls of film and saved many gigabytes of pictures.  Looking back, as a younger photographer I had many snapshots and few photographs.  Now I take fewer snapshots!  Now as a professional photographer, I will bring the same focus I had in my former profession, and am looking forward to the challenges that will bring.

My inspirations for taking photographs are as varied as my interests.  You will find examples of things from all parts of my life: from places I've been, people I've met, things I have found interesting, or perhaps photos that have been commissioned.  I am widely read and seldom idle, and have yet to settle into one photographic niche, but conceivably one day.  Photographs I take first have to satisfy me, and were originally taken for that reason.  My work does strike a chord with many people and so now I am inspired to have my photographs enjoyed by a larger audience.   With that in mind, I am now taking my craft to a larger stage.

I am venturing forth, or perhaps "adventuring forth".  Join me!!
